The edMesh District Product allows for centralised management of Chromebook configurations, which is particularly useful for School Districts with multiple Chromebook schools. By uploading a JSON configuration file, you can specify each school's organizational units (OUs) and manage them at the district level.
Chromebook Configuration Steps:
- Access Chromebook Settings
- Click on Settings and select Chromebook Settings.
- Upload Chromebook Configuration File
- Click on the "Add New +" button to add the Chromebook configuration file.
- Select your district's name from the list, click on Upload JSON, and select the JSON file.
- Input the email address of your Google Workspace admin account.
- Review and enable any additional configuration options. You can configure automated sync for users, devices, or the roster, allowing you to set a suitable time for the sync and avoid manual configuration.
- Select Save Changes
- Edit Configuration
- To view or edit your configuration, click on the pencil icon.
- You will be presented with options for configuring your User and Device OU configuration.
- Click on the drop-down arrows next to the school's name you wish to configure.
- In the search bar, type the name of the OU and click Add.
- After making changes to the additional options, click Save Changes.
#Note: An OU selection can only be used in one location at a time. Duplicate OUs cannot be added to different schools/districts, as they will automatically be removed from the previous school/district to sync with the latest selection. This avoids duplicate user and device entries.
Benefits of District-Level Management
- Centralized Configuration: Upload a single JSON configuration to the District dashboard and manage configurations for all your schools in one place.
- Device and User Assignment: Assign devices at the district level and users to their specific schools. This allows seamless student movement within the district, as devices are synced to the district and users to their respective schools. If a student moves to a new school, signing into a device will provisionally add it to their new school.
